Words

October 27th, 2008

We are so used to putting up with garbage, that we often mistake the brilliant for trash. We don’t read news articles, we scan them. Take the information we want, leaving the pointless sentences to the lame and boring.

I do believe that we should do what we think is ideal, even if everything around us is not. Make something in the world for others to learn right from, and to also appreciate. Even if it takes a lifetime, whatever we do, we do it for the future. I do believe that we should read word-for-word and that points should be made before their long descriptions. I try to write each and every word in it’s full meaning, for a reason. I do think that we should be using words by their actual meanings, to say what we want to say, not to use words for their traditions and “sayings”. (though that can also be useful sometimes)

For example, “curse words” are just that. Misused words, out of context, said as a curse. Curse words. You don’t even need to know what the word means, because you do not use the word to describe something. It’s an empty word, it can be any word. Any word that you use out of context, is a bad word. It doesn’t make you cool, just horrible at communicating. We try to say what we need to say, so watch your mouth.

We try, and sometimes we mess up. We say things that we know at that very moment. This means that in the next second, we could change our mind completely. Our opinion is who we say we are. If we are constantly changing, that means that you and I should never hold anything against each other. If we do, we pass final judgement on either that person or a subject. That is called judging others. Instead of making that foolish mistake, you could just take words as the words that they are. You’re free to think about it, as well as come to conclusions, but you don’t know exactly what that person has in mind. That person is trying to communicate, and you cannot read his mind. Therefor you are not in the position to Judge. The exact same thing goes to ”Swearing”. A swear is an oath, a pledge. You don’t know the future, therefor you do not make promises that you don’t know the outcome to. No matter how sure you are, you are not in the position. If you need to make a promise in order to validate that you are not lying, why would you be lying in the first place? You shouldn’t be lying.

Words are made up in order for us to communicate, that’s pretty important. Don’t ruin it for all of us.

Black & White

October 24th, 2008

Thinking black & white, in a colored world.

Take any motion picture for example. Is this movie good, or is it bad? Must it be one or the other? Are we going through life to label what we come across? We see color, and we enjoy it. Everything you see and hear will change you in some way, this is why we categorize the colors to what we believe in and what we do not. Bad and good, black and white.

A film is based off of many scientific parts such as: sound, camera angle, acting, story, and etc. You obviously could like one thing but not another. When we make the conclusion of a film being a good one or a bad one, we summarize it with an answer to questions like: “Would I see it again?”, “Would I recommend this person to see it?”, and most importantly “Would I let my child see it?” You have the power to influence someone with this movie (or anything else), if you think it would do them good. Or possibly bad, this is why we started a age-based ratings system for films. (The system is corrupt today, because of our public education corruption, but that’s another topic)

You’ve got to set your mind to be open to what is presented; color. Accept it as it is given, and only then can you come to a conclusion. If not, what you have is a firewall without a gate. You will fire with what you know at this moment, without even seeing the full picture. You will not only make yourself look bad, but also make life harder for whoever you are speaking with.

That was about color. But for some, it’s hard to see past the good colors. And for some others, it’s hard to see past the bad colors. This is something I’d like to call Positive/Negative labeling.

I’m not sure how old this expression is, but from my time a popular expression of what we don’t like is: “that’s gay”. I doubt many can explain just why they say that, so here it is: When someone is very happy, to the point where they cannot think straight, they often find the things that “over-do it” as just “ok to do”. That’s gay. You could say that it’s “living positive” to the point where you do not notice the bad in it. Living in your own world, being unrealistic, not seeing any colors that give off a dark shade.

Seeing color doesn’t only make you open minded and see more in life, but also makes it less of a hassle for everyone else on this colorful planet, because they don’t have to deal with your firewall every time they try to have a discussion or just a talk. As much as we’re used to thinking black & white, we must remember that the world is not black & white.

I’ll post more on positivity and negativity in the future posts because it’s a big subject.

Please leave feedback. :)
